"A partial survey about VoIP"
Perhaps you've heard of Vonage. They've been running commercials, for some months. Vonage is a member to the emerging industry of voice-over-internet services; I'd presume that they can manage video-over-internet, also.
There's a new member in the VoIP market, at AT&T Callvantage. Having become aware of this, I figured that it would bear bringing up.
Carte blanche, I do not have the resources to run a comparison of any VoIP services. Maybe someone near to O'Reilly publications does and/or would have such resources. Best I can say, 'props to 'em, when it goes well.
In software technology, narrowing-in the discussion, apart from service providers: Asterisk PBX appears to be a mainstay software system, implemented about VoIP technologies and public-switched, a.k.a "land-line" telephony.
Conceivably, it should be that Asterisk may be used with services provided by such as Vonage and AT&T callvantage. (Personally, I'd pick the one that would make it the easiest to do so.)
Point of fact, relationally: The folks developing voip-info.org appear to be qualified about topics contingent on VoIP and video-over-internet, and willing to make full-open discourse on such.

at&t's callvantage
at&t's callvantage isn't new, it's been around for several years. It used to be more expensive than Vonage but it looks like they've come down to comparable pricing now.
I'm not a Vonage subscriber
I'm not a Vonage subscriber but I have read some really good things about it.Aside from the cheap rates they offer, they also have feautures that are very convenient.Especially if you have a business that caters to an international market. Although only US,Canada, and Uk residents can subscribe, using a router with phone ports, you can plug into the internet anywhere in the world. You can then make and receive calls using the same local number with no additional fees. I can't say for sure about the line quality, but from what I've heard, sound is good in rare cases where there are sound jitters, they are very minimal. Which is not a bad thing since all form of telecommunications have this drawback.
New Digital phone service
Hi,
I found a new digital phone service in competition with Vonage. They offer to much features at a lower price of any other company. I'm also able to use my any phone (cellular or other phone) to make long distance call around the world for free.
I try Vonage before and don't really like it. The other company offer me 30 days to try it and I have no contract to sign. The voice is crystal clear and I save more than 50% on my phone bill.
If you want to take a look, go to htpp://www.mlmtogo.com and let me know what you think about it.
