A Proposal about DRM

Sun's getting into the DRM game. Quote, DReaM: Royalty-Free, Open Source DRM By Jim Wagner

I won't try to to put forward any more interpretation about Sun's move, there.

In addition to some discussion of the subject of it, that article includes a listing of the names of some proposed DRM products, being driven forward by some "major-name" companies -- probably all of 'em dreaming that it would be anything more than a proposal.

Criticizing DRM

You know, it is great to see some candid criticism -- and explanation, as at the page you reference -- about DRM.

I've seen it addressed at the Wikipedia, and was not happy with the sugary portrayal that I saw of it; it's been updated, but they are off my board about it, there.

I hear people saying "it won't work". I see signs of DRM being pursued, nonethelesss, by "$1.0E+09 companies" -- even worked in with MP4, as I get it.

I don't like it.

Neither do I like the thought of "the infosphere" becoming swamped with confused noise about it, or "the market" becoming swamped with confused hardware productions.

Long live the right to remain candid and well-informed, whether or not reasonably non-adopting, about any given item -- presumed however viable, by whomever -- of technology.
