Questions of tragedy

As a commons — a shared space — the Net is infinite, expanding with each new resident, each new merchant, each new document, each new reference to other entities in the same space. Hence, no tradedy of the commons.

Yet... there are those who want to make the Net finite. Scarce. Restricted. The question then becomes, What kind of tragedy are they looking for? Or, more to the point, Whose tragedy serves you best?

Of course it will be the job of IT folks to implement whatever tragedies Powers That Be insist upon.
